Date revealed: I was happy to finally learn the date of my draped bust large cent. I had it soaking for a long while, then I put it in my album as an 18??. Today I was able to remove just enough of the loosened debris that the olive oil softened, and sure enough it was an 1800.

I am very excited about it. I am unable to tell if it's any special variety of date, I can't detect any overstamping.

Congrats Bjorn--

One of the most frustrating things about metal detecting is a coin with missing numbers.

When you say you soaked it for awhile, how long do you mean?

Thanks,

T. Haire

Yes, that is frustrating.

I had it in olive oil for at least 2 months. It did the trick though.

I have more dateless coins, but that one has intrigued me the most.
