Lava??

Hi! I just joined your Forum today because I have found tons of black rocks on the beach in Charleston, SC rcently after some major dredging was done and I've picked out what I know are fossil bones out of these black rocks but I am stumped with so many other kinds. This is my first, which weighs less than a quarter is sitting next to! Is this lava?
