I have not cleaned it other than with soap and water as I'm afraid to lose any of the detail that I can just barely make out.

There are four hallmarks--my guess on them (left to right)

bird (?) in hexagon (maybe an oak leaf), lower case E (e), e or theta-like letter, NJ or HJ

any suggestions for further cleaning?

The utensil would have been small--approx 5" long. Notice the "shoulders" on the stem (or whatever you call the part that connects the business end to the handle). First time I have ever seen hallmarks on a utensil made of this material. Are the hallmarks an indication of quality?
