What is that?

This is what my best friend SVR  said about them in 2010
and I quote
"I have heard all kinds of different ideas on these. Some say they were put over the eyes of the dead when they were buried, though I never seen anything written to prove that. I've heard that they were Game Pieces, Charmstones, Fetishes, and even that they may have been miniature examples of the Mounds that they built. I also have heard that they were used as weights for Atl-Atl's. Until one is found in context of a grave or in a mound giving definite prove of their use we will just have to speculate what they were actually used for.

I should have titled my post a poor example of a hematite cone with a question mark. Because its a little rough and questionable.

My new avatar is hot....gonna stick with it!

great. too bad i didn't take time to make it better :laughing7: but you can't tell too much if your looking at it small size

Nice find. You don't see cones found too often. I have personally only found one (hardstone, not hematite) in the last 12 years. Is hematite common in your area? I always enjoy finding it but only really hunt one region where it's common.

yeah twitch its pretty common around here i find hematite often, if i remember right (from reading) there are some streams nearby in athens county where it outcrops. ive maybe 3 or 4 cones all rough like the one posted. It would be interesting to know what they were used for. I would lean more towards game pcs if i had to guess. probably checkers imho

That's what she said.

Yeah, I watch a lot of The Office too. lol

i been catching up on them but i think ive seen them all now. maybe a few i haven't seen. < thats what she said
