Late season find

Heres a late season find,it's a saxon coin of Archbishop Wigmund 837-50 AD. The coin is made of copper and is very small , these coins were called stycas and were Anglo Saxon, they made made in northern England.In those days archbishops could issue coins under license from the king.Shows how rich and powerful the church was in those times.

Sweet find! So about how many saxon coins have you found in total? Just to give me an idea of how rare they are.
 

Yes it is too bad the season is almost over. I'll sure miss spring of 08! I'm glad you got another excellent coin before the fields are planted. Seems like this spring has been good to you as well.

"by reading it" This takes experience as some have blundered legends, ie backward & misspelled words.

There are books on these & the EMC website is a good resource, if in doubt ask an expert.
