Detector(s) used
Fisher F75
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Left work and drove to the farm fields in hope of getting at least an hour of detecting in. Went back to where I found the button on Saturday, but the field had been disked and this actually made the detecting and walking more difficult. Left that spot and did a big loop around to the upper fields; these have the corn stubble knocked down. Some square nails and iron buckles were dug and the sun was sinking below the horizon. It's 7:40 PM and I get a solid 93, small target, good tone with no choppy sound or crackle like iron. "What could it be?" I thought, silver? Well, silver would have been great and probably consistent with the number but down from about 7 inches popped out a green disk. Coin or button? Turned out to be an 1850 large cent, pretty toasty, but very readable. Just have to put the coil over the right spot out there.
Thanks for checking out the post!

Congrats! Great way to end the day as the sun is going down.

Very crisp largie
Nice

Yes, it appears to have been dropped in the 1850s; there is a substantial rim.

Thx Stretch! Yes, I couldn't have staged the find better than it happened; just enough light to catch it on video.

Thanks Art! It fell to the earth about a hundred years before I set foot on the earth.

Thx Trezurehunter! That's the 5th LC I've dug from this site and they've turned up on all parts of the property: N, S, E and W.

Thx SultansofSwing! Wonder if Mark Knopfler work's a detector like he does the guitar?

Thx deershed! Definitely and early drop. Thankful that it wasn't "toast".

Thx ATW! Will continue to hammer that high ridge. So far three brass buckles, the LC, the Connecticut copper and a cast brass cow bell from this area.

Thx JackalopeZL1! Took a buddy here last Saturday and he said he'd not be coming back. Don't blame him, the targets are very sparse, but a thrill when you hit on an "oldie"!
