Got a little gold...1 plated Bicentennial half (my third) and a 1988 plated Roosie. From 4 boxes:

1 X 1951 Franklin
6 X 90% Kennedys
28 X 40% Kennedys

STILL looking for my first Barber......

OK what's the deal with these plated coins? Are you talking gold tinted or gold plated? Cause I've sent a bunch of gold tinted through rejects and need to know if they should have been saved. HH Mark

Don't bother saving them. The gold plating is so thin, you'd have to strip a BUNCH to make any appreciable amount of gold. Not worth it.


They were sold as novelties- Gypsy once posted an old ad for them.

I treasure hunt a bit in antique stores and keep a gold/sterling silver test kit with me...Not the most accurate but I will test the gold plating and let you know what I find... If you've done any gold prospecting you know that gold doesn't shine...It glows...Kind of hard to explain here. Most of the people I take out to prospect always ask how to tell if something they find is gold. Once they see the real deal they seldom ask again because gold just looks like gold....The half shines and the dime glows...Clear as mud?

Thanks guys. I am a gold dredger and know what gold looks like, but seen these gold tinted coins and was wondering ifn I rejected some good stuff CRHing is all. Thanks for the clearing up. Here's a bit of gold too.

Holy Cow!!!! Where did that pan come from? Now that the kids are back in school....at least they will be next week...I need to get out and do some prospecting!!!! It's been too hot here in CA and I just haven't had the time...I guess by that pan you know about gold "glowing." Nothing like the sun straight overhead hitting the gold that your suction nozzle just uncovered....

To be honest I won that last Sept in a fundraiser for the Wado Mining District- I certainly didn't get the big of stuff here in CO. BTW thas what 6 troy oz looks like in a pan. HH Mark

Now that would be awesome. I wonder how the size compares of a $20 gold piece and half dollars. I won't have to post if I ever found one- you'll here it haha right before the siren of the ambulance. I seen someone posted last month about some hand rolls full of Susan B's, some lil ole lady must have thought they were halves, would rather have silver but doubling searching $$$ is a good thang too. HH Mark

I think thats what I enjoy the most about this hobby.

You just never know what you'll find!

More likely in a bag than a box as you get all sorts of things in there that aren't necessarily the right size.

Part of why I enjoy bag searching to roll searching, there is bigger component of the unkonwn.

It's also why I find so many foreign coins.

Thanks PP silver is always ...PB I've been getting the boxes from B of A....I know you gave me the name of a bank here in my town that orders boxes for you where you are...Who were they again? I'm only 41 and already losing my mind so I don't remember!
