Hello all!! Here are pics of my finds from last Sunday, Feb 26. Again, I went back to the lake close to my house and hunted some old homesites back in the woods away from the lake. Total hunt time was about 5 hours from noon to about 5pm. I started out hunting in the same place where I found the silver buckle last week, but, unfortunately didn't come up with anything that even compared to the buckle. I found what I think is an old election token that says GILBERT CADE HERBERT WVA. It is round, about the size of a half dollar and has a six pointed star in the center. I searched and found a reference to Gilbert Cade here in WV, born in 1901 and died in 1969, I think...but not much other info than that, I figure that he may have ran for Sheriff because of the way the token looks. Also found an old button with an old english U or V on the front, can't tell....the back is rotted out and there are a few holes rotted through the front, the button is lead filled and is heavy, but I don't know anything else about it. Dug up one lousy coin, a 1964 memorial, and a couple punch outs, one made of aluminum and the other made of lead.....why would anything with a punch out hole be made of lead? Found lots of .223 shells, maybe blanks or tracers, also a couple of 30-30 and 30-06 brass, some old shotgun shell butts, a couple .30 cal brass, and some pieces of old pottery. Here are some pics of the finds, whatzits, and trash. Need another site to hunt this weekend cuz I'm not finding much good at the old lake sites anymore so hopefully I'll think of something. Thanks for looking!!

HH

not stoneware, as far as I can tell it's solid brass, pretty heavy....I'm thinking it is a piece off of a flagpole, outside porch railing, or furniture maybe

thanks for the reply

The "Gilbert Cade" piece is a letter-punch machine tag or token. These machines have been around since the early 1900's, and you may have seen them at amusement parks, tourist stops, train and bus stations, etc. The customer inserts a coin and then embosses the token with his name or some other inscription. This is done one letter at a time, using a dial or pointer to select the letter and then pulling a lever to press it onto the token. Some of these were used as political tokens; however, the name of the candidate was pre-stamped onto the center of the metal blank, not around the edge.

Great election token. Some times you will find things in the most unlikely places. Be patient.

Glad to see your still finding stuff at that site.....Nice token!! 8)

thanks for the comments you all and the info....

pbk....you are right about it being stamped one letter at a time, the background behind the letters doesn't line up perfectly, it's hard to see but you can tell....looks like it isn't an election token since they would have been mass produced, probably not one letter at a time...I was just thinking that it may be an election token because it resembled a Sheriff's badge....

thx again

Nice finds neverdone,
Since no one else confirmed PBK, I'll add my 2 cents. I have found several of these "tokens" here in Canada over the years with different names, places, etc. even one with my uncles name on it. The arcade in my hometown years ago had one those machines and for a quarter I stamped my own good luck charm. (it should have a spot in the middle of the star that says "good luck").
I read someone's post here about finding 9 in a garden.

that's cool, thanks for the info!! I looked for the "Good Luck" but the center is scratched and in very bad shape, can't see anything there....but I'm sure that it was there

there are a few good luck tokens on ebay that look almost identical

The buckle that I found at the site had the initials "JBK" on it and the token says "Gilbert Cade".....read somewhere that people used to shorten Kincaid to Cade sometimes, so it is remotely possible that they could have been owned by the same family

Thx again and HH

Never,

ditto the info you have been receiving on token.

Machine made, cost about a quarter, you picked

what you wanted printed around the edge, machine

did the rest.

Nice find.

Made one when I was a kid, it's an old, old, old, old artifact.

have a good un................

Hey I remember those kind of tokens in England when I was a wee wee lad.... We used to get them at the fair ground... We would print our girlfriends name on them ;D

God bless
