took the girl to lay out in the sun while i hit the backyard of an old 1900 farm home just off the beaten path of a major civil war route/trail.
only spent about three hours there but managed to pull out a few cool finds.
i'm family friends with the owner of the home so i took the ring to the jewelers hoping to get it restored to give back as a gift for letting me hunt. they told me it would be a few hundred bucks to restore-too much considering the ring is a 1910 era ring with a semi precious or glass stone. it has a "STERLING" print on the inside. anybody know when they started doing that?
either way i think it is a good looking ring and deserves to be brought back to its true form.
when i pulled it out it was unrecognizable.
not sure about the type of the smaller CW bullet and I'm guessing the buckle is circa early 1900's (but im not sure). ive see 'em plenty just not sure what they are exactly.

oh and by the way, i think that object in my hand is a bullet but ive never seen any like it. it has a hole in the tip-hollow point?

thanks for looking and good luck to all!

Re: todays finds

The thingy in your hand looks like the nozzel tip of a garden sprayer, clean the dirt out and see if it is threaded inside.

Re: todays finds

Awesome ring!
I think karat numbers became mandatory around the turn of the century.
the term 'sterling' is older, not sure how much.
Great finds

Re: todays finds

Yup, it's threaded. Sprayer head for sure!
Good calls.
Thanks for the comments. I'm looking fwd to seeing w kind of stone it is. It's warn a bit but it's been cut as u can probably tell. hope it isn't glass!

Re: todays finds

The ring is definitely worth getting restored! :icon_thumright:

I'd PM "Sentinel" (Josh) if I were you and ask him for "Roland's" email address. I think Roland is based in Virginia and purportedly does amazing work at a reasonable price.

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Re: todays finds

Thanks for the info Dave!
I'm gonna do just that.
The woman who owns the property is THE GODMOTHER of real estate and sold me the very home I live in now. She's a good woman and I would love to reward her kindness with this beauty all restored and shiny. I had a few afternoon hunts on one of her other properties earlier this week. Nice spot with a long CW defensive trench like bunker line. I fear it's been hunted on bc I'm having trouble finding hot spots. Time will tell!
I'll be sure to add update pics if I pull it off!

Nice finds man.

In England the composition of sterling silver was subject to official assay at some date before 1158, during the reign of Henry II, but its purity was probably regulated from centuries earlier, in Saxon times.

woodland-
good info, thanks.
is there anyone out there that has Rolands email address??
