Went out Saturday for a long hunt with a buddy. I found a couple of .58 caliber bullets, one fired one dropped and a Union Eagle coat button. I also found a camp store token that I thought was from a mine but have been told by gsxraddict from this forum, that it is a Civilian Conservation Corps token. Thanks for the help :icon_thumright: I only found one older coin and it is an 1899 Indian. The A.J Tower Co. button is off of an old rain slicker. The round piece is a whats-it so I could use some help with it. It's heavy like lead. ???

I have not found much silver this month, so I went out after work yesterday trying to dig up one more. I got permission at an old house and got to work. I went slow trying not to miss any signals and for the first hour pulled up a bunch of wheats and two cap guns in the front yard. I went around to the side of the house and wasn't finding much. I was just about done with the side yard when I got a real nice signal, it was good to see a Merc in the plug. I went down the yard a few more feet and got another nice signal and pulled a Merc that has been hit with a mower.
I hope we get some rain soon, it's about too dry to dig here. HH David

Hi David!

Nice finds as usual brother! Seems you consistently are finding the good stuff--always an intertesting cornucopia of finds! I would guess that the round "What Is It?" is part of a toy spinning top missing the spinning part or axle or whatever they call it. Great token BTW!! :icon_thumleft: C'mon up to northern NJ--we've got your rain! :laughing7:

The token is from the Civilian Conservation Corps, in summary, they built roads and cut trees in the 1930's.

Good Find

Thanks Erik! You may be on to something, I thought maybe that piece could be an inertia wheel off of a gyroscope???. I would love to spend some time up that way, where all the really old history is! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks for the info gsxraddict. That makes sense for the C.C.C. on the back. I will have to look up more about it. :icon_thumleft:

That CCC token is great! Somewhere I have a list of where the various CCC companies were located - they often moved from camp to camp as they completed their projects - so tying it down to a specific location may be tough. My guess would be that this company had a fairly large project as the smaller camps would not have had a commissary or camp store. How about posting it to TokenCatalog.com where somebody may have the camp number list handy and be able to identify it? With your permission, I can post the pics if you'd like.

Thanks John! I am a member of TokenCatalog.com. Someone has the token listed but needed an image. I have already uploaded these photos to it. It has Madisonville, Tennessee listed, but no more info. I would like to find out more about it. Thanks for your help.

Okay - now I see it listed in Copeland's TN Tokens book - he has 5¢, 10, and 25 Cents denominations listed with just the notation "rare". I did find the CCC list at CCC Camp Lists but this one is not listed in TN or anywhere else. That kind of blows my theory about a large project, unless this company was reassigned or renumbered. You might contact the Monroe County historian at Monroe County Historian & Genealogist to see if she knows anything of this CCC camp and what projects they worked on. Thanks for posting your pics on tokencatalog.com! I took the liberty of correcting the ¢ to CENTS on the obverse description.
