Got a sweet 1945-D Merc and my first buffalo nickel, 1934-D. 7 Wheaties - 1910-P, 2x 1935-P, 3x 1936-P, 1941-S. Got a older nickel too, 1939-P which is certainly a cool old nick. The religious pin says "Congregational" on the front and "Little's Cross and Crown System" on the back. Found the pin while "keeping an eye on" McEtrak's E-TRAC. It was down 8" and I thought for sure I had a deep indian. One thing I noticed while finding 4 targets with the E-TRAC is that is was REALLY quiet between targets (no chatter at all). Actually now that I think of it I didn't hear a threshold either... Dave do you hear a threshold with your headphones with the way you had it set up? That would be interesting if you did... then I would say my Koss headphones ARE crap.

Had a great time hunting this weekend with McEtrak and my Dad, and met a new detectorist that blew my mind. Hopefully one day I too can become a "Master" of metal detecting... and not just cutting roots, hee hee.

PICS!

I turn my threshold down to where I can not here it,then depending on if the site is trashy.I will only turn it up 1....But where we hunted in the big field, and it wasn't so trashy...I then turned it up another 1,so I can here a break in the threshold, and here the faint signals....When I get near traffic or loader noises,I turn it up a bit more.......
When hunting a trashy area .I don't like to hear alot of racket,,,so I have barely audible...But for good ground and deepies....Gotta have a more clear threshold...I always have a threshold, even if it is just barely audible by me..
Congrats on joining the Buffalo club......Nice looking Merc too... ;D.... H.H. RootMaster

Yeah, that was a great day for a hunt. Watching you and McEtrac dig deepies all day taught me one thing. I need to get me a Minelab. Great finds! and congrats on your first Buffalo RM.

Sounds like you guys had a good day. Nice Merc and congrats on the Buffalo Brett. What did Dad end up with?

You did alright with your DFX over the last two days, that's for sure. I would definitely trade my last two days finds for yours. That said, yes you still need a Minelab machine :) Let's get those E-TRACs!! Maybe we can get a deal from Ron Shore at WindyCityDetectors.com if we buy two at the same time.

I looked around and found another pin with the same saying on the back. But the other one has "Methodists" but it has the same crown and SS on it too.

The SS stands for Sunday School.

Thanks for doing some research for me! Now if I could only get someone to dig my holes for me... hee hee. I love this hobby, you never know what you are going to find. Can't wait to see what you get today. Hopefully it's not snowing by you :)

Thanks McEtrak! That makes sense about the threshold. I wonder if you will be turning it up even more now after what we learned? I gotta make a test garden to test out some wilder techniques.

Thanks Fiend! That's what I was thinking when I dug it... it's basically a BU quality Merc. And the Buff is very strong... couldn't ask for a better first Buffalo.

Awesome digs! I love digging the early wheats. Of course, I'd rather dig early silver, but we take what we get and get what we take. That's a great merc. I haven't found a 45 merc yet. And welcome to the buffalo club! It's funny because I hadn't dug a buffalo in months, and then I dug like ten in 2 weeks! With that luck, I'm surprised I didn't find a 3-legged bison on the reverse of any of them. Oh well!

Here's hoping we can maybe get out a few more times this year.
