For 2 days I tried to find that last gold ring of 2006 to no avail. I did however find plenty of clad. Today I decided to give it one more try. I hit a local park that has been pretty good in the past for jewelry. I was there for about an hour and the phone rang. It’s Mike and he wants to hunt. So after telling him where I was and to “come on down”, I readjusted my headphones and I hear a mixed signal right where I stopped when Mike called. It was a strange signal showing a low then high reading on the MXT. I decide to check it out and out pops this 14k white gold heavy band. Size 10 no less…it fits. I check the hole again and there’s the culprit, a quarter was in there with it. No wonder the mixed signal! Man, am I glad Mike called when he did or I may have passed it for junk!! I checked the ring after I got it out of the ground and it came at 22. I also found 7 wheaties (unusual for me to find anything other than clad coins) 6 of which were right on top of the ground. The oldest being 1935 S. My last three hunts yielded $31.76 in clad. $25.50 just in quarters and three Sac dollars. The skull thing is a watch that opens up. BTW, does anybody know what the "F" stands for after 14k?

Happy New Year And Happy Hunting In 2007!!!

Nice batch of coins. Think the F stands for Filled...as in Gold Filled. Nice ring.

I don't want to disagree with TreasureTales, but I believe the f means fine.

The following definitions are from the Ebay jewelry forum.

GOLD FILLED
Gold filled (abbreviated G.F. or written as "doublé d'or") jewelry is made of a thin outer layer of gold atop a base metal. For example, jewelry marked 1/20 G.F. 12 Kt. is at least 1/20th gold and is layered with 12 karat gold. To be classified as gold-filled, a piece must be at least 1/20 gold by weight.
GOLD PLATED
Gold-plated metal has a very thin layer of gold on the surface, usually applied by the process of electroplating. Pieces that are gold plated are often marked G.E.P., gold electroplate, gold plated, or electro-plaqué d'or

14kf means 14k FINE. Just another adjective that some jewelers use to sound like experts.

I love the skull!! That was a good hunt. I consider a ring surfacing a very god hunt (for me anyway). Best of luck in 2007.

Happy New Year

Trash Digger you are correct. I stand corrected (again, and again, and again LOL).
