Last night's clad and a rookie personal best

Went detecting last night till around 12am at the park. The place was littered with clad. I could've been there till six in the morning if it weren't for work today. Nothing silver, and mostly pennies. I can't tell if there is anything deeper until I get that 250. The thrill of not knowing exactly what might come out of that dirt until you find what is causing that signal has got me hooked. My silver to clad ratio is a little whacked, but I accept it. I'd accept 100 coins to one merc. It's just as fun digging. Had my best clad day since I started, about 21 coins total. Scratched the itch, got some practice and my recovery times are getting better. First pic is of last night's clad, second is of everything I've found since I started a few weeks ago. The 1940 Quarter remains my best find to date. I want a merc!

Congrats on the personal best. ANY best deserves major KUDOS! And don't worry about that silver to clad ratio thing. I have found hundreds of coins and not one of them has been silver...Except one that a certain someone sent me in the mail along with fifty wheats!

12:30am to be exact. Yup, I'm hooked. Can't wait to get that Ace 250. It kills me to think I might be missing deeper stuff with my 1100. I am as hooked as this little guy was a few months ago. I hope I can make time for some good Largemouth Bass fishing come next spring........but I don't know! I thought that was addicitive......this is like 10x more addictive.......even slowed down my cigarette smoking. THanks for the great comments guys.

Nice finds. You don,t know how right you are. 10 years ago I bass fished at least 150 times for the year. This year I went detecting about 30 times and fished 3 times! Once you dig for treasure you never do go back to Bass fishing like you did.

Great clad count. I have found 2 Merc's but not a single silver quarter of any type. LoL, hope we can both find what we are looking for.

Keep digging and the Mercs will come. Almost everywhere I find old coins, I find at least one Mercury dime. I've gotten to the point that many of my Mercs go as souvenirs to folks who give permission for me to hunt their property. Outside of the hobby, few people see them and many had no idea what, or who, came before FDR. My 6 year old girl is always looking for coins on the floor of stores; several weeks ago, she found a '34 Merc under a lottery machine. With her luck, I should make sure she has her own machine real soon.

Looks to me like you are off to a great start in this thing we doo,
so the personal bests should be happening often for you I think.

Nice finds and great battery money. Now you can use those new battery's to find that elusive
Mercury Dime. It will come and then you will find them all the time, you just have to break
the barrier. Then you'll be looking for that first Barber, first Seated and so on. They will come, it just takes time and digging lots and lots of trash and clad coins.
