11 degrees this morning, but I was able to get one last hunt in before the snow hit. Went to my favorite lakeside park and started working the shoreline, it was 38degrees out but felt like zero with the wind chill. After about an hour I had to go to the car to warm up almost gave it up as I had only come up with about a dollar in clad and a junk clip-on earring. Decided to work the lawn for a bit focusing on nickel signals hoping for some jewelry. The second signal I dug ended up being a 1927d Buffalo nickel. Probably not a big deal for most but for some reason I never find Buffs and it had been one of the few items on my 2011 goal list that I hadn't fulfilled so I was all smiles.
Worked the lawn for another hour then braved the shoreline again where I pulled the 1964 roosy and the 1909 Canadian silver 5 cent piece (a denomination I didn't even know about until I got home and looked it up). Finally half frozen I decided to call it a day but kept swinging on the way back to the car, sure enough got a nice high pitch silver tone and out pops the barber quarter another one to knock off my goal list. It was worn as thin as rice paper but marked the first time I had knocked off two goals in one day.
Hating the frozen ground right now as I am all jacked up to go do some more diggin' but couldn't ask for better hunt before the freeze.
