I live in central NY and recently met a fellow hunter that was kind enough to share some of his hot spots, as I welcomed him to hunt some of my permissions as well. The first site he showed me was nowhere to be found on any of our old maps and that excited me. I was told by my friend that he had found over 20 flat buttons on this site last year. It is known locally as the "brick factory", due to a large smattering of bricks, and lies in the middle of a field along a river. My first hunt there I found a couple of clay pipe pieces, 5 flat buttons, 2 lead bullets and a roundball, a decorative piece, a toasted standing liberty quarter, and my favorite, the 1802 Large Cent. The next morning I had 2 hours to kill before work, so I got up nice and early and went back to the brick factory and found 3 more flat buttons, more clay pipe stems, a wheat penny and a crusty 1818 Large Cent. The last picture was at one of my permissions on Cornell University farmland.
Finds include a flat button, a small heavy eagle figurine, an ornate broach piece, a small childs ring (plated), 2 wheat pennies, an 1865 Indian Head penny, 1929 Buffalo Nickel, and an 1847 Large Cent. All of these finds were made within the last week or so. Happy Hunting!
