My last couple of hunts have produced some pretty decent coins. They were all found on old road beds literally in the middle of the woods but in the 1800's till the early 1960's they were pretty active areas of our county.
The large cent was found on a piece of property that I have detected dozens of times and pretty much everyone around our area has also detected there. I was looking at some old maps and saw the roadbed that I had never seen before. I asked the property owner and he knew exactly where it was...the third target was the large cent.
The silver coins were found at the site of a church that was founded in 1874 - nothing was found around the building but as we moved away into the woodline my hunting buddy found a roadbed and the silver coins were found just off the side of the road. This site will be good during winter as it is covered in snakes and ticks right now. While we were there we found three snakes within about 10 foot of where we were detecting...one of them was eating another snake for lunch.
