Gibbsium (Patrick) joined Watercolor & I for a day of hunting on Tuesday. We had a good time playing in the woods.
I found an old small compact and a Chief Pontiac coin from GM.

The Pontiac coin is pretty corroded and I haven't tried peroxide on it yet. We had a little lunch break and then headed over to a new spot that Mark wanted to hit for some turf hunting. It was pretty trashy, but within ten minutes I got a "BAM - no doubt it's a deep quarter" signal. I wish I had thought to grab the camera and film, but I got right to digging and found a 1942 George!
Nothing else after that but clad. It was a fun day. It was good to get together with Patrick and Mark for the day.
I went solo to a new spot in the woods yesterday. From my research, I had high hopes for this spot, but it wasn't as great as I thought it might be. I did manage to find a '23 Merc, though. I thought it was a penny at first because the fine dirt had stuck to it like glue. Even my trademark squirt bottle wouldn't rinse it off.
In the sunlight I could see the embossing of a Merc through the dirt.
While I was in this area, I found this tree that had been partially washed out, exposing some of the roots. I thought it was pretty amazing. Here's a pic in honor of Rootmaster Brett and Treasurefiend - and anyone else who has fought with tree roots for a coin - pretty much all of us I suppose.

After getting tired of the bugs and the treelets, I moved to another spot for some more turfing, and went on wheat patrol. I think this spot had been cherrypicked, because every good, deep signal I got except one was a wheat, and lots of early ones, too. After digging about 12 wheats and two 50's Canadian pennies, I found one they missed - a '17 Merc!

When I got home and put my real glasses on to rinse the wheats and check for key dates, I found that one of them was a 1909 VDB - the second one of these that I've found since last spring. No 'S' - HIT!!!

It was a fun two days! I hope you all have success on your hunts this weekend!!!
Thanks for checking out my post!
