Last couple of hunts - a nasty Indian & a partial solid silver spoon
Wow! The quality and quantity of the finds here lately is superb!!! I've had a lot going on and haven't been able to get out much, or even get online a lot. One day last week, I was at my mom's house waiting for a furniture delivery with some time to kill, so I re-hunted part of her yard. I found two wheats that I missed previously, and also got a partial solid silver spoon. Too bad it was broken off just after the start of the hallmark. I saw a similar pattern that was produced by a William B. Durgin Co. Upon closer inspection of the part of the hallmark that's there, it appears to be "WLI" before the break in the handle. I checked some on-line reference sites to no avail.
Fathers Day was real busy, but I decided that I was going out for a short, close by hunt before the family stuff began. Mark & I hit a grove in the woods and my second dug target turned out to be a 1882 Indian. He's kinda rotten, but like Mark said, he's still an Indian!
The other two finds were from hunts before life got a little crazy. They didn't warrant a post of their own, so I have them tagging along on this one. The uniform button looks relatively new. The back says "Superior Quality" and it was held in place by a wire. I've seen uniform hat trim buttons held on this way, but it's a little big for that kind of button.
The other relic is a dual wick lamp mechanism. That puppy was a good 13 inches deep and sounded good!
My daughter and her family have gone back home after an extended visit. I sure miss my long walks with the grandkids! Things seem to be a little more quiet this week. so if it ever cools down, maybe I'll trip over some more silver.
Thanks for checking my rotten Indian out & HH!!!
