What made you decide to dig in that spot?

one year ago this month I started here, 10 shelters looking at each other, dry creek bed in the center, flint all over the place, hmmm looks like a great spot to me!!!
now 100 + points and 10 pestles later, I still have a long way to go. I am just now beginning to enter under the overhang of the shelter I am in front of.
As soon as I walked into this valley I called it the "Indian Hilton"

Man your rippin it up tree..I went diggin for over 3 hours yesterday and only found 2 brokes and a jasper scraper..i NEED to find a new rock!!!

Wow Tree those are just awesome finds!!! Love the points and the pestle. I have a big rock shelter that I have permission to dig. Trouble is everyone else has already been there. Dug the place up pretty much. There is a huge rock with a hole in it where they ground their grain and stuff. Alot of artifacts have come out of there, including a 4 inch spear head that my uncle found and a nice bead necklace and a medallion type thing that my aunt found. However, no one has dug out in front of it. all of the digging has been under it. There is a creek that runs in front of it too. It is a really nice place and I am hoping to get back there to do some digging myself. Hope you find many more pieces and keep posting them. Love to see them!! :headbang:

Im sure glad everyone doesnt have a spot like urs! Btw just realised my daughter lives in ur town. Great job tree!

thx all, if you have a shelter with a creek in front of it, go down to the creek and start digging back towards the shelter, sift everything. it will start coming out. they probably spent more time down there with tools than in the shelter. I am just now getting to the shelter in about a 15 ft wides area. everything so far came out of the front yard. there is still a got more yard left, but I'm hoping to see what comes out from inside.
this shelter has been dug lots. the top 3 feet of dirt up top has all been gone through. I am down below all that though. I still have to move their dirt and sift it to make sure, but all I am finding in it is beanie weenie cans. I have about 4-6 feet deep of dirt below that level they stopped at. We have already found a rotting tarp laid on the ground separating the dirt they dug out.
good luck,
Tree

100 points and 10 pestles! Nice job treefrog, it's been fun watching you recover those things. Very slim pickens here, we walk hours and miles, but until it rains.... :dontknow:....thanks for sharing! :icon_thumleft:

Remarkable artifacts!! Thanks for keeping us updated. That cresent looking rock is nice! That shovel looks lonely...

I must admit that these photos show your artifacts much much better than the pics with the red velvet background, awesome job Tree and thank you! That is one heck of "hole" you've created, that's a lot of work man, don't know how ya do it

I do,man if i had a rock like that id be there everyday after work, you HAVE found paydirt, thats 4 sure! keep it up!

something else interesting about my dig, when I 1st started I noticed test holes all over the place, there are still some around the corner from where I am, but I am now believing that I could dig this whole area for years and never run out of finds. you would have a very thin chance of digging a pilot hole and hitting stuff here. you just have to move the dirt, all of it, sometimes I dig for hours with nothing, then wham, 4-9 points in a few hours. I always tell myself when nothing is coming out, I am getting closer to more all the time!!
I guess what I am saying is if there is much sign at all, test holes may lie about what is there. you may need to move a large area of dirt to know for sure.

look how much on the top is a different color, really light colored and gone through. all of that has came out of the shelter, but look how much black dirt below it there is to move. they only touched the top, I'm hoping that bottom will really pay off.

Treefrog,
Dude!!! You done got into it!!. Man thats's great. It looks super, and I really enjoy your posts. Thanks and good luck this weekend. Lone Star

Oh yea you have your work cut out for ya ,as i see alot of good dirt yet to be moved, and i know how it is digging for hours(especially under old sifts)finding nothing but chips and then you find 2,3 or 4 within an hour, its that way at all the shelters ive dug,i may leave empty handed 1 out of 4 times ,but like you said man, even if there is nothing coming out ,it WILL eventually as i find most of my points in concentrations just as u said, awhile back i dug a hard 3 hours with nothing but flint chips, but in that fourth hour right b4 dark...bam! I found 3 real nice points within like 7 or 8 sift loads! Its all about patience, stamina, and KNOWING they are there to be found. :headbang:

Great digs Tree!!I know how much work goes into digging, and when you are not finding relics it can be easy to pack it up and go home. The hard work is paying off with alot of real nice finds, thx for the look.

Always nice to see what youre into now. Good job and thanks for the pointers.
