I have been getting a lot of marked coins and they are all marked the same way........marking coins is stupid, a waste of time and is just plain idiotic! :angry4: :cussing:

this idiot coin marker must be in my area, because the last 3 weeks of boxes from brinks had a ton of this goof ball's coin marks, whoever is marking these coins is writing 2 numbers on them, the month and day, I would have to guess it is the day he searched them.

if your on here and this is you, quit wasting your time defacing all these coins >:( :nono: :angry7:

I mark one coin per roll in this fashion, although I doubt very much you're seeing my coins all the way over in Ohio. I do it to see where they go and how quickly I get them back. I keep a spreadsheet of the "mark" (date), the date I dumped them, and where I dumped them. Then I record when I see them again. It's actually told me quite a bit about how they move and how much faster they are moving than they were two years ago. If you do it intelligently, you can gain some knowledge of what's happening. I agree that marking coins for the sake of marking coins is useless. I also don't see any reason to mark all of them, as I've also seen. You only need to mark a few to see how they move. I also mark the one in the poorest condition in the roll.

When I started with halves back in 2006, I didn't get any of my own back until Dec., 2007. That told me that they either didn't send them back to Brinks or Brinks held them until the pile grew too big or demand forced them to re-roll them. In 2008, I started to get my returns from Dec., 2007 forward in June. That told me that demand had at least doubled from the previous year. Now, I'm starting to see them in about two months. Last week, I got 808 and 815. The turnaround is now extremely fast. It's also telling me that the banks are not sitting on them, but returning them as fast as they receive them. Sometimes they'll even ask if I've searched them already when I bring them in.

Thanks for the info on the marked coins and their return times.

Interesting stuff.

Sorry to hear that you are in skunk land. You will see the grass... well... silver... on the other side soon enough though. Just need to keep at it! Try a roadtrip to round up some handrolls. That almost always broke the skunk runs for me.

Good luck!

Did they have a N/A or 8/9 because I did about 150 coins in Aug.

Right on.

I get blue circles, black X's, 'J' with the month/year, black across the date, black dots on Kennedy's ear, red blue and yellow dot stickers, and most recently, 'Dad'

no N/A or 8/9
just 2 numbers that I assumed represented dates, and a lot of them, way more than one per roll, so no way it is srcdco.........

I've seen a ton of coins with both a red and a black dot. They all came in the CWI boxes and all the boxes dated 6/26/08. I have seen them now in about 40 boxes so someone went to a lot of trouble on these. Usually about 300 coins per box when they appear. I think I've finally made it through the pallet as I have started seeing dates from August appear. The Brinks boxes have been hit or miss but haven't seen any marked coins yet. Recently I picked up $70 in hand rolls and all had the letters CSN written on on them in black marker. Anyone here able to claim these marks? I never mark the coins - no time for it but the dating system seems like a good idea but too much work for me. Luckily I have a great dump bank here so I buy everything and just send them off to my dump bank. They take the bags with mixed coins and credit me in ten minutes! They roll the cart out to my car. Sweet system so skunks and marked coins are easier to stomach than when I dealt with the coin sorter or rolls. They seem happy to do it and thank me for not using the coin sorter. The only coin they can't handle are the large dollars.
