Hello,

I picked this up at Burl Ives's estate sale last week. I believe it was unknown to the sellers that it's Stering.

I can see it used to have a basin of some kind under the rim. It's very thick, and has real antlers.

A chaffing dish? Champagne bottle holder? I look forward to your input. Thanks!

Seeing as how I hang out more with the beer and Fritos crowd, I have no idea what the heck that is.

You don't suppose those antlers belonged to... Oh, say it isn't so!

Haha, I didn't even think about that! Rudolph, no!

Looks like very early 20th C style.

I can see it's a warming dish of some kind. It's also marked 335 - an item number or something.

But the maker and potential value are still eluding me...

The chafing dish I posted is by JOSEPH HEINRICHs.

Looks like this stuff was moderately popular back in the day.

Here is a set by Heinrichs that sold at auction for $15K+.

It strikes me as odd that the Burl Ives estate would have this piece. It was likely made about the time he was born...

In his heyday it would have be a hunk of old junk - unless it had particular meaning or sentimental value.

Maybe from his childhood? A movie prop? Gift from a special friend? Who knows..? Anyway, you could never prove it.

Cool piece. Thanks for sharing.
