Large slug with pointed tip

Hey all

Dug this today, large caliber -

I can see some nice rifling on it, but the tip is pointed, did this happen when it hit its target or were some manufactured like that?

Soldiers sometimes carved bullets in camp. Either out of boredom or to make game pieces, artwork and ofcourse to make bullets more deadly. Yours is one of these bullets

I agree with Corsair. If it is carved, you should be able to see some knife marks. Look at it with a loop . all my carved lead has these marks

Wow that's amazing! Thanks guys, I've heard of carved bullets I just didn't even think of it!

If your seeing rifling marks on it, then I think it was hand cast and they let the excess from pouring the lead, then rammed it a bit hard in the gun.

a point is better than a rounded end ! he could wright with it ! must a been a very large pencil sharppner !

I'll have to use the loop on the tip and look for cut marks

Apologize, these are pics of the tip, but I verified the base isn't threaded
