Dug this at lunch in swampy area of 1800's farm site. It rang up in the silver/brass high range when in the hole and still rings high when sweeping with the detector? Some rusty iron rings high until I pull it out then it rings the proper iron.

Any ideas? It is fairly magnetic and weighs less than a typical iron farm washer. Worth electrolysis or just take a hammer to it?

Give it a electrolysis treatment .. what do you have to lose?

Decided to take it back to the dock and drop it on the cement several times, rust came off easily. It is actually old iron, no brass, just junk.
