I found this large copper today in a field . I initially thought 10 Reis but can’t find a match . 10 Centemos ? Nope . Looks like a shield and perhaps a crown on the reverse .

It is definitely a 10 . I know in this pic the lighting on the corrosion makes it look like a 6 instead of a 0 but with mag glass it is a 10 .Is that a ten or sixteen possibly ?
My Initial thought on the coin was correct after all . It is a 10 Reis counterstamp on an 1823 - 1830 20 Reis from Brazil that was counterstamped in 1835 when their currency got devalued .I found this large copper today in a field . I found it . South American coin . So no surprise you haven't come across one on that side of the pond . My initial instincts were right . Only I was thinking Portuguese. Brazilian 20 Reis coin. Devalued and counterstamped 10 Reis in 1835 .You can see the crown over shield & laurel leaves around - on the reverse, so its a coin. Not sure whether dutch colony or (no idea, not seen one)
