But look at the size difference compared to a regular colonial shoe buckle.

How big is the smaller buckle? Could be the smaller one is a knee buckle instead of a shoe buckle.

The smaller one is definately a shoe buckle i have lots of knee buckles..
This iron one just struck me as odd..Still does

Sure do Johnny. Probably 2 hours or so north of me. Been there a few times. A lot of history there. Probably settled in the late 1700's Im guessing.

I took a pic of the buckles with a couple of knee buckles for size comparison..

The iron one is kinda scary looking.

Should i electrolysis it?

Now your smaller one looks bigger. I have done electrolysis on my iron relics and it always worked good for me. I dont think you have anything to lose.

Nothing wrong with the size, seen bigger shoe buckles than that.
