This large old coin and broken wrist chain was found by a woman back some 35 years ago. As I recall, she found it lying on the ground near her mail box in Muskegon, Michigan.

She gave it to me and said "throw it out if you don't want it."

Is this object a real coin? It has markings on the edge and is about the size of an US silver dollar.

Thanks

Thanks much everyone.

I posted this late last night and was so ....ah, ah..tired I didn't really known what I wrote until this morning. ;D

This elderly lady who found this item was my wife's grandmother (passed away years ago). We shall always cherish it.

Thanks again.

More specifically, that's a German 5-Mark coin from the German State of Bavaria. The "D" mintmark indicates it was struck in Munich.

? ? ? ? ? Ludwig II was the crazy one . His father was Ludwig I and he married Maria Theresa of Hanover . Their wedding party was the very first Octoberfest . Ludwig II almost bankrupted Bayern (Bavaria to us) by building castles . He was a "Wagner freak" and was the composers primary patron . He named his beautiful castle at Neu Schwanstein after Wagners "Swan Lake" . He had some serious mental problems besides being gay . That's quite a find . A real piece of history . Congrats .?
