Actually these are this Labor Day weekend's finds, but I tore apart the study or din or......hobby room, what ever you want to call it, and just got the computer and scanner and everything else back up. Started out at a couple abandoned homes nearby and was getting a non stop beep..beep...beep from my CZ-5 every time I turned it on. I thought it was toast, went back home and took a look at it, and it worked fine. Went back to same homes and it did it again. Some sort of interferance from the power lines I suppose. Then I checked out an old dump where I found a teens wheat and a token just scratching around for old bottles. It was full of buried metal and just too impractical to detect. Then I remembered a coworker telling me about a really old farmhouse being torn down to make room for more condos. I was closeby, so I drove out to look. Old gate open, no signs and recently bulldozed. The site contained a lot of trash, but I soon found a 44 Washington quarter and a couple pennies. I headed closer to where the house sat and in between numerous large target responses I got a good hit. Right there on the surface scraped up by the dozer was the 1848 large cent. I also dug an 1853 large cent and an 1879 Indian. Next day I went back to my old reliable picnic site and scored 4 rosies, a merc, 14 wheats and lots of clad.

Thanks, I just wish the older and better dates would come out that nice. Some of the soil around here is very kind to copper and nickel.

Thanks, I think I've found 3 of the 1853's over the years, but the 1848 was a new one for me.

Thanks Ohio Jerry, I was having fun digging all that 1900's silver at my picnic grounds, but I needed some 1800's action, and now I feel better. ;D :coffee2:

Thanks Buzzard King, the scanner sure brings out the detail compared to the camera.

nice job on the indian, large cents and silver coins! :) Large cents are my favorite! :)
Detecting Freak, I'd love to find the entire series of large cents, I'd also like to find a half cent or two.

the big cents are sorta a throw back to english big pennies from colonial days ---1 oz of copper by wieght --- another fun fact --- AMERICA doesn't have PENNIES we have cents -- the british use the term penny but call more than one PENCE not PENNIES --- when america split we wanted to use a differant term to distance ourselves from english money --thus the dollar and cent terms

Wow! You must have some GREAT soil there.....I never dig Indians or LC's that look that good!!
Congrats' on some SUPER finds!!!

Thanks Dale, I don't always get that lucky on the soil, but sometimes it's pretty sweet.

Forget the silver!

The large cents have the condition and patina, and that reigns supreme. The nice 1870s Indian Head is also beautiful.

You have three extremely nice pennies.
Thanks, I love the condition on these too.

:o

Beauties!!! All of 'em! 8) Super digs, DD!!
