A quick hunt today confirmed my suspicions that my 1890 permission had an earlier place in the corner of the lot. I weeded through lots of iron and produced the following...

And a fresh dug pic for you dirt connoisseurs

I'm wondering the age on the ring. The LC is of course an 1827 and the Indian is an 1863. The ring was found about the same depth. I didn't clean it and plan on carefully handling it. Also the lead seal is pretty rad. I need to figure out what was here before...

Anyway, happy hunting!

Awesome finds steve!, that lead seal is one of the larger ones I've seen!, nice largie too!

Nice digs Steve. I hope the site turns out even more early stuff for you

Cool finds there Steve, that is a different looking key for sure.

Real nice digs, Steve.
Let me see a close up and the other side of the lead..
Could be a cloth seal.
Great LC, good condition to boot.

I agree. I've seen hundreds of normal skeleton keys and never one like this. When I dug it I was like "a question mark skeleton key?" Wha?? Lol

Love them largies!

WTG Scrappy, that key sure has an odd shape. Congrats on those sweet coins and by the way what the heck is the item furthest to the right in pic 3?

Sweet little ring, I really those old ones. Nice LC too. The only lead seals I get are the little ones, that is one pretty cool. Congrats on a great property.

That's a lead seal of some kind, probably a railroad one dating to the late 1800's. I'm going to take a pic of the other side and sent it to Vino to see if he can ID it between digging sword belts and colonial silver coins;)

I don't know how an old ring has managed to avoid me in my year & a half of searching old sites, but can tell you THAT is why I keep looking! Nice finds as always. Thanks.
