Hello,

As I was walking out of the woods today I found a nice big buckle. I am unsure as to what type it is or how old it may be, and I hope someone here can help me out. I have not done any cleaning whatsoever yet, and if there are any suggestions I am all ears. I see some nice detail showing through on the front(visible on bottom left side). The Etrac read this as a 12-42 which is just a hair under a copper penny numerically.

Quarter is for size reference. Thank you in advance for any and all help,
Anthony

No experts are around , apparently ;D , so I'm going to step out of my zone and guess it is late 1700's

Looks like a shoe buckle. Nobody wore shoe buckles after the 1830's, so late 1700 - early 1800 is a safe bet.
