I found this old brass ring today at my site that gave me the 1829 capped dime. It looks like a rein guide, but it does not look like the ones I am use to seeing(brass ring with the attached bolt). This one is different. Is it possibly 1700s? It has a THICK green patina. Thanks in advance, Found in nc

It is the correct size for a rein guide. But I've not seen one mounted like that. Looks like a poor design. Maybe that's why it broke off... :dontknow:

Looks to be a brass reign/strap ring. Most had a screw-in attachment, but yours apparently was affixed differently.
