Hello all

I have recently acquired this ring, it is set with a Lapis stone…from what I have read lapis which is of a solid dark(ish) colour with tiny golden specks (fool’s gold) and very little or no solidate is said to be of a good quality….

The band is marked .925 and the carb is surrounded with tiny silver balls and what looks like brass/copper (or something else?) hearts at either side.

I have been trying to find some info in this ring, so far coming up with nothing!

The person from whom this ring had been acquired had said she had it from the late 60’s and when she got it, it was brought from an antique store from the East Coast, US…..

I asked the opinion on the ring recently, and they told me that they believed it was a very recent piece of jewellery, from the early 1990’s or so!!

Gosh, it is such a mystery!!

What are your opinions? Suggestions on the age, and style of this ring? I would be ever so grateful for your feedback!!

Thank you in advance!

Glammy ,

I have no idea of age,
But I will be willing to bet that the hearts are gold and not brass.
when you found it were they green or corroded looking?
If not ...my bet is on the money.

By the way,
a most hearty welcome to T-Net
and a grand opening you made.

Hi Thom!

thank you for the welcome and your reply!!

you know, at first i thought it was (rose) gold too...but a friend had said to me that if it's gold of any quality then it'd be marked?
hmmm....
not it wasn't green either...

:)

Putting Brass and sterling together is not something I have ever heard of.
I would suggest taking it to a jeweler and get the hearts tested.
I would really like to hear what he (or she) has to say.

i believe it is older than they believe...while the proof mark is basic, the color of the stone, the wear on the cab...is that crude workmanship? or honest wear?

forgot..nice ring. i am guessing forty years old.

thank you!!

the wear that you mention, you mean on the small silver balls? yeah, one is missing...it defiantly looks like wear! the lapis itself is in very good condition.

yeah, i love the ring...it's really basic but pleasant.

i will make an appointment with a Jeweller by the end of the month.

best wishes ~

It is a nice looking ring.
I was going to say it has 1960's 'feel' to it, but having another look, I might guess 1920 - 1930 :icon_scratch:

i was speaking about the wear on the stone...but...the ring has that well worn look to it..the gold portions should have had filligre, or other decorations...these appear worn off...

the ring, while a popular design even today, has the look of age.

lapis is a copper compound...and while midnight blue is the most desired of stone, i believe this stone is dark from age...lapis absorbs oils form the skin, cooking, ect...darkens the stone...this stone appears to be old and worn.

When you re-take your pictures, move away from a white background. Natural light is best with no flash. Try a dark blue, dark green, or black.

Nice ring. Let's see if we can figure it out.

Oh, I see you mean about the wear; the darker patches on the ring? Yes, it completely slipped my mind that Lapis is one that darkens over time. Although, I do believe it was of a deep colour to begin with.

There is damage on one of the hearts, it’s a pretty deep dent. The hearts are so hollow! Since getting the ring I must have knocked it ever so slightly, and made a tiny mark on the other heart :/ but you need to look really well to notice it.

Balli
Silver with low grade gold, or maybe brass; stone may be sodalite or other dyed stone. Modern.
