Awfully surprising to have a face like this peering at you from the bottom up!
Wonder who she was? Favorite find today.....
Edit: This brooch is without doubt my favorite non-coin find ever. All of the goodies stayed with the landowner, hopefully she would have me back again. I thank and bless her much for the opportunity. Her yard is pristine and I tried my best to leave no trace. PA ground is unforgivingly hard compared to southwest Michigan soil that is for sure.

Lovely. I suspect it has been copied from a French portrait by or of someone notable... or perhaps both.

It seems to be exactly the same portrait as on this 19th Century papier-mâché snuff box, but facing the other way.

The seller says it's a snuff box but I doubt it, with the linen lining. More likely a pill or breath-freshener lozenge (cachou) box, or possibly a pin box I would have thought.

Quite a few neat finds today. :icon_thumleft:

It would appear those tabs, if bent appropriately would allow a through pin perhaps maybe?

Same gal no doubt.

Beautiful piece- Congrats!!

Funny, I immediately thought she looked 19th C French!
