Labor day finds

[Clad the Impaler]

Hi everyone. Got out yesterday with Pocket Spill to some south side parks. I ended up with a Chuck E. Cheese token, a cta token (my 2nd), and a small Chicago park district pin. Clad totaled a whopping $20.22 (51 quarters, 63 dimes, 6 clad Jefferson nickels, and 87 cents (72 copper and 15 zinc)) a new one day record!! Best find of the day, and possibly the year, I've saved for last. It's a WWI dog tag. I can read all the info on it, even though it's bent from a mower blade. Servicemans name is Pvt. Julius J. O'Hara. Apparently, he served with B battery, 51st artillery regiment, coast artillery corps. His service number is 14814. If anyone can provide info on surviving family members, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd like to retrurn the tag to them. My hats off to you Paul. I've had many 50+ dollar clad days before but never anywhere close to that from dug coins. That's some kind of numbers there. You gotta be reaching for the dammitol after a day like that.

Tim- yeah, I popped extra aspirin and took a VERY long and hot shower once I got home...lol....methinks no more detecting until next weekend.

Great finds, awesome clad count, but like you said, the best find is by far the WW1 tag. I'm not much of a relic guy but that is something that sure invokes wonder.

congrats on the large clad. i would guess u were hunting in disc.

above pull tab which is why only 6 nickels. right ?

let me guess the only nickels found were part of pocket spills w other coins.

Great finds Paul! Man that's a cladload of clad.
Especially like the dog tag. If you have two pieces of wood - oak or maple - hardwood, you can flatten the tag by putting it on one piece of wood and gently hitting the other piece of wood with a mallet or hammer while it's on top of the tag. Or if you have a wooden or plastic mallet you could just tap it against the tag until it's flat. It won't take much since it's not totally bent up. Easy does it - a little at a time.
