Dug this brass knob and although it looks similar to a gas valve knob, I am not so sure as this one is threaded and has very worn out numbers like 1494 I think. Any other options other than gas? thanks vn

...VN , the threads Almost look as they are "self cutting/tapping" OR simply rusted away in that pattern. I agree not gas valve as it could become "unscrewed" .
Wonder if standard (SAE) or British Whitworth threads ? Hmmmm..... Small drawer pull for a small drawer ?

I reckoneed that it was a gas knob but I wasn't sure on the threads that seem to taper, but it looks as if some sort of tip had broken off the end of the threads.Probably the gate part of the valve? As worn as the numbers are , it makes sense that it was turned on and off a lot in its life. Most of these that I have seen are plain or decorative but none with numbers. Thanks for the input all.

I have to agree with a Thumb Screw. I never saw that piece of a gas valve that the handle screwed into.
They were always one piece like this one.
