I'm posting this in the hope it will stop people wasting their money on a well established myth.
Caused by a mistake in a very reputable book:
Medieval Pilgrim and Secular Badges by Michael Mitchiner (page 244)

Its not a pilgrims badge of the Knight's of the Order of the Holy Sepulchre but a box stud used on 19th C boxes. The example I show is from a rare magicians box:
