That's what it looks like to me. Nice find.

I found the same knife today at a Civil War battlefield in Mississippi. I found this old thread while trying to determine when this knife may have been made. Hoping there is a pocket knife expert out there who can give a date. I know the company was in business from 1852 through 1931. I found where one was sold on a relic site and the date range given was 1860-1890. Any pocket knife experts out there?

Sadly, my brother Joe passed away last October. I acquired some of his collection but don't remember seeing that knife. I still have some boxes to go through and if I find it I will verify whether it is curved like his photo suggests, or just bent. A brief internet search did not yield any matches but I will keep looking.

Sorry to hear of your brother's passing. Here is a picture of the knife that I found yesterday for comparison. Not a great photo but it has "NEW YORK KNIFE CO" on both sides. Sorry about the sideways picture, but this happens almost every time I post a picture. Not sure why.

New York Knife Company was actually a two-fold company. The original company was actually based in Matteawan, New York and was founded in 1852. It produced knives under that name. In 1856, it merged with Walkill River Works and moved its operations to Walden, NY and started producing economy knives under the logo "Hammer Brand" starting in 1880. In 1928 all knives they produced bore the factory name of Walkill River Works, which were made until 1931 when the company folded. So, by this history, your knife could date anywhere from 1852 to 1880.

...... at least this is the history as I have it.
