My first instinct was to say a carnival ring-toss prize, but the etching on the blade throws me off, can we get a close-up of the etching?

I haven't been to a carnival since I was a kid, so I'm talking 45yrs ago. You could win some pretty cool stuff. If you don't think it's worth anything, just price a painted chalk figurine of Mickey Mouse or a bronzed pot metal horse with a clock in its belly.

Handles are bone, pommel is brass, carbon steel ( my opinion ).
Definition of picture on my phone is perfect, but did not have same resolution on the post.

Definitely a Mexican "bowie" knife, and I'd say a pretty nice one at that. Likely cow horn handle scales and much nicer blade etching than the one I purchased in Oaxaca in 1963. They don't bring a lot of money these days, but there were a lot of makers from the 1930s on, mostly in the state of Oaxaca (pronounced wah-hah-cah) and there are people who collect those made by certain makers. The condition of the one found by Rebel8 is a little lacking do to exposure to the elements, but still a nice find.

I don't recall giving any recommendations, and I did state that the etching threw off my initial impression, just wanted to clarify that. That being said, I think it's a great find, Congrats!

Oh, on a quick read I thought you suggested to paint mickey mouse on it.
I haven't sold anything in 35 years of th'ing. I wasn't interested in pricing it.
Thanks for your interest. Now, if I can just figure out how to mark "solved".

Google T-Net, log in, forums, what is it, find thread tools, mark as solved. It took me a helluva long time to get that one.

This forum is one of the best places to post. I put one of my daggers on an international antique blade forum for 2 months and didn't even get a guess. I posted it here and within 2 hrs I had the correct, verifiable identification. This site is populated by a large, diverse group of people with an enormous wealth of life-accumulated knowledge. WAY TO GO GANG. !!!!!
