Just wondered if other members would give their input on this find. Another member stated knee buckle and after a bit of research I certainly agree. Want to make a point acknowledging I do not doubt the other members ID, I just simply want to confirm for good ole "Bragging Rights". The Tennessee County I live in really saw little to no settlements of significance until approximately 1800. The area I am hunting was known to have a few Settlers in the area before a town was created in 1812. This site is on the River and the furthest out from the established town of the sites I have found. It is very possible it was there prior to the town. Found dozens of flat buttons at the site that date 1790's thru early 1800's. For this area this would be a really nice OLD relic. Thanks in advance. DSCF2960.JPGDSCF2962.JPGDSCF2965.JPG:

It depends on were the centre bar was, length ways or width.

Length ways. Even though I did not get a good picture it is apparent when you look at it. The center post traveled the longest possible length inside the buckle in other words.

Stock buckle? Used for? Very light weight for any type of rigorous use. Sorry to be so uninformed, but again I am in an area just at the later edge of colonial as far as settlement. It appears to have been configured similar to the buckle on the right in this picture, or similar to this silver one, although a little lighter in construction. Pics pulled from net when searching but those pics also included many that were obviously larger shoe buckles so still did not confirm it is a knee buckle.

Took another pic. Looks to have likely had a pin that allowed rotation in the center. DSCF2969.JPG

Stock and Breeches Buckles both had the centre bars running the length of the buckle, shoe buckles the width.
