I hit that farm I went to before XMAS. I found a King George there before XMAS (if you remember that post). I spoke to the owner and he was very willing to let me detect the corn fields within close proximity to his house which was built in 1755. I hit one field but found lots of aluminum pie plate scraps. Funny how one pie plate can scatter over an acre of land without a problem. I decided to try the lower field directly in front of the house. I hit two what I believe are King George coppers. This is a total of three in a few weeks from that farm. I think the date on one of them is 1745-6 if that sounds about right. The other is a bit too worn to tell. I noticed that on one coin, the figure points to the right and the other to the left??? Any ideas. I'm really happy to find these coins. Very old indeed.

Also is picture of a flat disk that came in as silver. It has a hole drilled in the center???
Any ideas on the small round balls? They have flats on them as if filed/fired??
Pictured is a small clad coin spill found near an xmas tree stump :-D

I will post on the what is it forum too.

Thanks for looking and I will try and get some pictures of the area too.

Great Georgies! If you take some tissue paper and a charcoal stick and do a rubbing of the coin you could probably get more detail. The disc is certainly not silver, but I think it might be a flat button. Is there a hole all the way through, or is it a place in the center where it looks like a shank might have broken off? Could we see a close-up of it? The round balls are interesting--especially the one in the first photo. I thought it might have been made into dice for a second, but I don't see any other markings on it.

The heads on British coins turn from left to right every time a new king or queen started their reign.

You have a George II & the George III is facing the opposite way. Although I don't reconize the coin as George the III only had 3 later years for the 1/2 penny, 1799, 1806,07. (it doesn't look like the first issue 1770-75) It is of a later head in the style of the period 1816-20 but no copper was done then. Unless its a token.

Hi buckleboy, you are right, after a good cleaning the disk is copper not silver. It does indeed have a hole in it. One one side you can see where the hole is tapered as is it was started with some sort of drilling device. It is about 1/8" in diameter. The back side of the hole is only the size of a pin hole. Could have been where the shank completely ripped out?

So the George II faces to the left and the George lll to the right? The one facing to the left has something like "GEORGIVS" on the left side of the head and then "II REX" on the right side of the head.

The other coin is smaller in diameter than the one above. It is about the diameter of a quarter. I can't make out any lettering or dates in on it. Would this be a George III??

Thank you for looking and for helping me understand these coins ;D

very nice~

I know what it is now. Its the core of a fake shilling of George III, the silver plate has come of. They were commonly faked at this time.

So the smaller one is the fake shilling core? That would be really cool to find something like that right close by my house ;D
