Chris and I went on a permission mission yesterday looking for a cut field to get into. We realized shortly after driving around that no farmers cut fields where we wanted to dig. We almost gave up for the weekend...until I was struck with a thought..."Wait, I have one more site we need to check. It looked ready to be harvested weeks ago, so I thought it may be ready." ;D I was correct as we drove by! It was the only cut field in the whole area...and I had research on the site!

I texted Kirk to tell him we got permission to hunt the field. When I told him where it was located, he texted with the words "Bucket bonanza!" :laughing9:

It wasn't long before swinging in the site when I got my first target: a beautiful King George II halfpenny. My second copper came shortly after: a 1775 King George III halfpenny. My last copper of the day and my oldest coin ever was seven inches deep and read faint. It turned out to be a 1600s French Liard copper. You can see the words "De France" on the back of the coin!

I also dug my first set of fully intact cufflinks! :headbang: I finished the day with two dandy buttons and a tombac!

11 coppers for the group today! All Colonial! Yawesome! :headbang:

What a site! We dug 11 coppers in about 45 minutes. :laughing7: You must clean those cufflinks and let me know what is on them.

Kyle, those coins are in decent shape for a change! Love the design on that tombac. You guys hit a good colonial site there.

Nice coppers, Kyle.
Great way to start the fall season.

Re: King George II, III, and a Special Copper: A Colonial Bonanza

Kyle, if you can thin out the corrosion enough to read the letter that's below the word France, and above the fleur de lys, it will give you fairly tight time frame.

Re: King George II, III, and a Special Copper: A Colonial Bonanza

Kyle, hope you can get a bit more off the Liard and you probably have your oldest copper found! Hoping for you that it is a 1650s Liard, the ones we have found have nowhere near the detail left that yours appears to have. I am sure IP will nail it but I think you need to see the mint mark for the time frame.....French coin not my speciality :D
Congrats to you, bro, and Unc!!

IH and I just got going a few weeks ago too so I guess all the Bros are back. Our posts don't reflect it but we've actually been at it pretty good but just not lucky with many great looking fields having nothing. Maybe the other day was the start of a lucky streak for finding sites.
