I found this little silver beauty in a hole today. I could use some help with identifying its class as I have not been able to find a match online or in the Spink catalogue. It would be nice to put a date on it or find out some more about the coin.

Thank you for the welcome.

The inscription seems to have an extra letter EDWAR - EDWR
The maltese cross at the top of the coin appears larger in that image
The shirt appears much narrower as well

I don't that is the same class ..... but if you see another that's closer I would love take a look.

I have had 5 other silver coins from this site this year, but this has been the most difficult to identify.

Think I will have to look at that link again tomorrow with fresh eyes. Thank you for your help Don, it is much appreciated.

Wow. That coin would even impress my wife (she's never impressed)

Congrats on the amazing silver!

Haha Scrappy, story of my life...

Is funny how it works. It's not "wow nice coin that's so old". It's, "how much is it worth" and the "sell that shiz" lol. The she'll want to talk for 20 minutes about what curtain color we should have in the living room.......................................................

Class 4b Spink 1395; ...1282-1289..Welcome to TreasureNet.

Scrappy.... That's one reason I never married.

Silver Searcher .... I don't that is the same class either "Class 4b Spink 1395" .... The Maltese cross is huge on that variety.

Now that my eyes have woken up, I am leaning towards Class 9a2, Spink 1407 ............

Welcome to tnet.

I never bother to try & class these,(it's a minefield) & I get so many London Mint Eds that it would do my head in & take up valueable time. It only begins to matter if your going to sell a rare variety/class, well in my eyes anyways.

Sound like a good field for this time of year, so look forward to your future posts.

Thanks for the welcome Crusader.
I hear what you are saying, but for me half the fun is trying to identify items found to the best I can, before I label them and squirrel them away.

Today's finds.... The sixpence was 10" down in rock hard dirt.
3 buttons
2 GV old pennys
1 GV half penny
1 GV 1922 Silver sixpence
1 Roman

I get you, & we are sort of on the same page. I label everything & keep them all in albums but when your GPSing & researching over 1400 Roman Coins (although Dad does most of that task, but you get the idea) every year & 80-100 hammered, time runs out & you need to draw a line somewhere. I need some time to research the next good spot as well. I rarely give up on a mystery ID, but Ed I London becomes good enough.
