Good afternoon everyone! Summer vacation is over and school is back in session, which means Treasure Hunting Class is back! We've started off the year well with some cool finds (thanks to the generous donations of equipment we received in the Spring. So far, we have managed to find 2 sweet pieces of Native American pottery (they fit together like a puzzle), a part of a colonial buckle, some horse tac, railroad spike, what we think is a heal plate, a brass latch, possible quartz arrowhead, a cut (or broken) Draped Bust large cent and something we are not sure about.

Obverse is smooth, no detail left. The reverse shows the wreath and part of the United States of America lettering. I'll ask the photography class to try and get some good macro shots for us.

I believe your heel plate is actually a toe plate.

You should put your pottery shards in the Native American Artifacts forum on Tnet. They will tell you more about it. Your shards are "punctated" (dots).

Thanks DCMatt, we posted the pottery this morning in the Native American section. Not many comments yet. The pieces are extremely similar to one that came in a kit we have on loan from the Vermont Historical Society.

Here's hoping your class can dig up some history this year, nice start...I like those shards! The clip left of the buckle looks similar to a men's sock garter clip (close in design to "Boston Garter" clip). I could easily be wrong.
You might focus around the R.R. Spike and follow the old R.R. Tracks,might find something interesting along the way.
