I was in a very trashy meridian area on a side street... my usual field to go and relax in has been fenced off and is in the process of being turned into a honkin huge playground area. Ummm... yay? (good for my girls but not so great for me... sigh)
Anyways... I'm swinging the coil and hit a repeated 81... slight detours to 79 and 80 but primarily 81 and for me... I'm thinking... silver coin. Mind you I've only had one silver coin but it was a silver dime and showed up the same and it was a lovely almost pure hoot. So I nail down the area and start digging... it's shallow'ish... only 3 or 4 inches. The ground is dry, dry, dry but very grassy so it's holding together fairly well. I lift the plug and look in the hole... hmmm nothing... pinpoint it to be sure... nope it's empty. Ok... check the plug... nothing obvious... pinpoint it... from the top it's sorta strong warble... from the sides... not so much. Hmmm ok... I split it down the center and take a peek... no coin... but... crap it's aluminum... aluminum... what the hell?
Ok I'm finding throwing stars from someones shop projects... pretty good one too... some fine detail and while one of the star thingies is bent slightly... light metal... the star throws and sticks quite well. I had to laugh... several folks had walked by and the inevitable banter with each is "whatcha finding" "tons of trash" "oh... well lovely day isn't it?" and off we all go. Fella watering his yard heard me laugh... yeah this was kinda a big laugh... it amused me. He said "find something good?" I'm "well normally I don't find ninja throwing stars on the roadside but..." and then I showed him. He rubbed his chin "jeeze... looks sharp... what do ya know about that eh?" We both laughed and I put it in one of my outer pockets. He said "you think you'll find more?" I was like "nah, it's one of those funny things... everything else is just pop cans and a pressure valve someone threw out" and he's "hmmm well have fun... I have to get back to watering" Me "me too... gonna head home and start being responsible again... take care"
So I'll miss my big empty field in back of the school... but I had fun finding a throwing star... and tomorrow is another day... who knows what I'll find then... been a while for pop caps.
