A flint or a very dark chert. Strike it against some iron... an ax or shovel... in the dark and see if it sparks and see if you smell sulfur. Be careful.

I striked it in the dark no sparks and no smell....it's heavy and has a smooth feel to it.....

Most likely a chert then. I appears it can be knapped. How well I do not know~ there should be some knappers in the Indian relics forum you might want to get their opinion. Luck to ya :)

Its flint/ chert as DD says but its not a artifact. Looks like natural breakage to me.

I took an axe to it, whaked it couple of times, finally broke of a part off and I would say no to knapping that stone..

Well just like the old injunes' did.... try try try again :) To my understanding it takes certain qualities in stones to make tools from them. In this I'm no expert however the few qualities I do understand tend to be those that look to be most like glass~ sharp fractures and dense structure. Luck to ya.

its a type they used but maybe to many fractures in that one. It has to be a clean stone with no hair line fractures to be able to knap it. They used any type of rock that was around. Flint, chert, quartz, quartzite and jasper and the list goes on.

How does someone lower or cancel a bid during an auction. I read up on it a little bit and saw that you can't unless
A)you enter something like 99.50 instead of 9.50
B) the description changes dramatically from when you bid
