Not a beak. IMO

The beaks and claws on an Eagle are made of the same thing... keratin, the same thing as human's fingernails and hair. Also, an Eagle's bealk is almost as long as it's head, and much larger than the pictured item.

Also... Eagles might "break" their beaks, but not lose them. They will continuously grow, but never re-grow.

This was taken from a dead animal IMO.

Ahhh... well in that case I guess maybe?

If it's American Bald Eagle you don't wanna posses it... it's illegal.

If it is a cougar/mountain lion claw .... I find it quite interesting .... they aren't suposed to be here in Maine . There have been several mysterious sightings the past few years in our local newspaper . I found it in an old stonewall I was rebuilding last fall .

You found it? Thats a bit different. Maybe a claw. I thought it would be sharper.

Yes , it was in a crevice , in our stonewall , I was moving rocks around that had fell off it , putting them back in place . We live on the Nobleboro/Waldoboro townline .
Here is another link to our local paper .

I thought it was a bear claw (lots of black bears around here) It's just been sittin on our Kitchen window sill all winter.

Felines are the only thing I know of that shed claws and have a new one underneath.
That one might have come off a bobcat. They expand, come off and the smaller one
replaces it and is sharper. I had a big cat that shed, I found he already had a new claw, I saw him loose it and checked. Gnewt

It's from some kind of large cat. That looks exactly like the claws my cats lose but on a smaller scale. Wait..BRB...okay, I just tried to get my cat to give one up so I could show you but he was having no part of it. :tongue3:

Thats an awful large Bobcat. :o I have what is probably the largest (Bobcat stuffed) that you will ever see. I found in Everglades hit by car, soon to be sold on eBay, and the claws will fit just inside of a dime. (same size) Too big for a Bobcat. Could it be that Maine Mountain Lion? :-\

I think you should show it to Maine Fish and Wildlife. You may loose it though.

It is a cougar claw. We have many attached to ceremonial items for native american ceremonie's. Given the shape and color it has been off the cat for along time as in decades. Given the size it was probably a fully mature cat. Tho you say there are no known populations of big cat's in your area that does not mean there did not used to be. And in earlier times hunters used to trade souvineer's with each other. Also native people would give gifts of totem's to white settler's to protect them and their housholds. Which may explain why it was in the stones. I still follow that part of my heritage and give protection gift's to people when they need them.
