Killer hunt from Aug. 24th, 2003 - One of the BEST I've been on
It was Aug. 23rd, 2003 and I received a phone call from friends who live a couple hours from me saying they just hit a great site, found a cob, and many other finds, and asked if we wanted to go hunt! I called Ironhorse and the Cladman and it being short notice IH couldn't make it, but the Cladman was game. So early that next morning we met for what was going to be one of the best hunts I have even been on. The pics below are all from that same day and include Spanish silver, Colonial coppers, Rev War buttons, Colonial lead seals, an 8 pound cannonball, and the list goes on! I was especially lucky that day with my coil probably being the hottest there!
This site was great for a long time after, and just to give you an idea of how great.... About 2 years later the Cladman and I were back for a hunt and didn't hit that field until the end of the day. We walked in, made our way to where one of the early houses stood and in under 10 minutes I had a 54th Rev War pewter button, Claddy a 1690s French silver (billon) coin, and one of our hosts another cob. (He was the finder of the cob in the pics below, as well as the one the day before the big hunt) So three good finds all back to back to back. Then it started to rain and we went home. These days the place is getting pretty quiet but there will always will be the chance of any hole making your day. Aug. 24th, 2003 is one day of detecting I won't soon forget!
My finds were... the 8lb cannonball, 1723 2 Reale Pistareen, piece of American silver half, Rev War RP button, French bale seal, early pocket knife, bayonet frog clip, canister shot, various buckles, musket balls, crotal bell, jews harp, coppers, and a few more odds and ends.
