Cute finds! Your derringer was made by matel (sp?) The rectangular hole in the back of the derringer's handle attached to a belt buckle. You could exert a little belly motion and the derringer would spring out in front of the buckle. You used greenie stickum caps and the matel "bullets" consisted of a spring loaded brass cartridge and a grey plastic "bullet" which had two prongs on the end that secured it to the cartridge. Brings back some old memories. The derringer dates from the late 50's to possibly the early 60's. It is in pretty good shape considering it's age.

[size=14pt]Great finds. The toys look just like the kind I used to play with back in the 50's. For being in the ground all this time they are sure in nice shape. To me finding old toy cars and trucks is more rewarding than finding clad coins. Each one I find I try to visualize some small child and how they would have hours of enjoyment from such a small toy. Compare that to the kids of today who would be bored with one of these toys in under 5 minutes. Nice job!!

I'm a sucker for old toys, too. The paint on those vehicles is really good. I never had one of those guns, but I remember the commercials for them. Nice job! Congrats!!
