Well I was down key as far as ft. Jefferson and the dry tortugas. Weather sucked it was grey and overcast much of the time and chilly and raining sometimes. Five days of furious fishing for not much fish. I only got to hunt for 30 minutes, which also sucked. But....in my 30 minute hunt I had a remarkable average. I got 3 fake cobbs in 30 minutes....one every 10 mins. !! This actually makes me happy...I have many fantasy cobbs I've dug down here in the keys and they are a unique badge of honor for me !! Check out the beautiful patina on those bad boys !! LOL:laughing7: and is it possible that they might have been clipped :laughing7::laughing7: !! Anyway we made the best of the trip and at least caught some red snapper !!

Happy hunting folks

Floridas badge of honor smallfoot....a slight rise in blood pressure....and then a chuckle !!:laughing7::laughing7:

Nice Snapper.

Do folks just seed the beaches, or are they gift shop loses?

I think a bit of both....families throwing them down in the shallow water for the kids to find....memories for the kids and family on there vacations pepper.

the cobs look genuine, the snapper looks fake . . . .:laughing7:

I think there should be a law, that all modern 'replica' coins produced stamped 'copy' or at least 'replica'. :icon_scratch:
What do you think Bart, you're closer to this topic than I am?
Dave

Many of them do say copy somewhere on them. I think I'm about the same count with fake cobbs and real cobbs, so even the fake ones are not so easy to find !! I have a fun little collection of the fakes !!

I hear you Bart, if anything it's a good educational tool for folks who find them detecting or buy them for coin a collection.

ANTIQUARIAN:

I believe that is the law.

Many counterfeit coins are offered for sale on eBay. I've reported many because they are not stamped "COPY" but I haven't seen that it does much good.

Good luck to all,

The Old Bookaroo

[My apologies if I missed sarcasm - it's early here on the Left Coast.]
