I would say it is a key wedge used when forming a foundation for a concrete pour.If it is relatively malable(soft)than I am even more confident. Was it found next to concrete footing or such?
If however it is tool strength steel(not soft)I would tend to believe rat tail file end also.

cheers

Sorry, but it is not a rat tail file. They are round. Picture a rat with a round tail. I say it is a mill ******* file. You can see the diagonal ridges in front of the tang.

It's the handle end of a broken file. Tony

Thanks very much for the ID Tony!
I've certainly found my share of files hunting farms over the years, but this one stumped me! :laughing7:

Thanks again,
Dave

It's up to you to figure out the word that was censored. It starts with b and ends with d.
By the way, the tang is the pointy end of the file.

A large coarse milling file is a *******. That's what is on the box when I order them. Tony

The way to get around the censoring of word is to substitute one or some of the letters with another character, in this case it is a ...mill ba$tard file

Ok ... I get now!
I've never heard of a Ba$tard File before, although my wife calls me that on a regular basis so I should've known! :laughing7:

Thanks guys,
Dave
