The fancy appearance reminds me of a gas shut-off key. Where did you find it? How big is the opening?
It's 1/2'' x 1/2'' . I found it in an old box of tools I got at the dump .

problem is that this style was used from everything from gas valves, fireplaces, piano tensioning, clock winding, and so on. hard to pin down exactly what from

It's very decorative, so it was definitely something that was meant to be seen. :thumbsup:
I'm thinking it's either a radiator tap key or a barrel tap key.
